Small spaces need to be designed and decorated differently than large rooms and the flooring you choose is no exception. With so many flooring options to choose from, it can be hard to make a decision for an average sized space, nonetheless for an exceptionally small sized room. But alas, there are specific choices you can make when it comes to your flooring that will make any small space look and feel larger than it actually is and with our three tips, that task is made easy!
Tip #1 – Choose a material that will show lines, such as tile, laminate or hardwood
Make sure that you install or have the flooring installed along the length of the room, rather than along the width of it. This will make the room look longer than it is and create visual interest that brings the eye down and along the entire length of the room.
Tip #2 – When designing for a small room, try to stick with lighter colors for the main materials
Because small rooms typically have less natural light than larger rooms, using light colored materials, especially on the floor, will help to make the room look and feel much bigger and more airy than it really is.
Tip #3 – If you decide to go with a tile or wood (either hardwood or laminate) floor, you will want to choose a material that comes in medium to large sizes, meaning the size of the tile or plank
Because this flooring is going into a small room to make the space look bigger than it actually is, you will want to install fewer large tiles, or fewer wide planks rather than a lot of small tiles, or a lot of thin planks. Doing so will keep the floor from looking too messy or chaotic.
Following these three tips will help you make the most of your small room, all while making it look visually larger than it actually is.
