Laminate tile
One of the reasons why laminate flooring is more economical than hardwood flooring is that it's made from less expensive materials -- often a combination of plastic and wood fibers.
You can't sand a plastic surface without destroying it, so when stains develop on a laminate floor, you have to resort to other means to remove them. Warm water works most of the time, but not always. When it doesn't, a strong solvent usually does. Laminate flooring manufacturers usually supply a cleaner for their products, but they don't recommend using soap, because it dulls the finish.
1. Fill a bucket with warm water, moisten a rag and wring it out, then use it to clean the floor to remove general dirt buildup. Water will remove any surface grime or stains that it will dissolve, including some scuff marks, food stains and blood.
2. Use the cleaner supplied by the flooring manufacturer to remove more difficult stains, including those made by marker pens, grease or wine. Mix and apply it according to the instructions on the container.
3. Mix 1 cup of white vinegar in a gallon of warm water and use it in lieu of a laminate flooring cleaner to remove difficult stains. Vinegar is a mild acid that will dissolve the stains, but it may also dull the finish, so apply it only to the stained area.
4. Dissolve tar, ink, lipstick, pencil marks, shoe polish and nail polish with mineral spirits or acetone. These solvents will also dull the finish, so use them sparingly, rubbing them only on the stained area.
5. Remove gum or candle wax by hardening it with ice, then scraping it off gently with a paint scraper or an oscillating tool with a flexible scraper accessory.
