Vinyl Tile Installation
Sheet vinyl flooring offers a durable and attractive flooring option that, if well-implemented, can greatly increase the appearance of a room and the overall appeal of the structure.
1. Clear any objects or materials from the space that block access to the floor.
2. Prepare the subfloor. If the subfloor is level concrete that is free of cracks, there is no need for preparation beyond cleaning.
3. Install plywood underlayment, if needed. A plywood underlayment is suitable for wood-framed floors, including old vinyl floors.
4. Measure the installation space carefully and transfer these measurements to the vinyl sheeting. Alternatively, use a large sheet of paper as a template.
5. Cut out the sheet vinyl. Leave a few inches on each side of the template and plan to trim it later when it is on the floor.
6. Lay the sheet vinyl in position. Roll it up loosely to transport and clean off any dirt or debris after unrolling it in position.
7. Cut the vinyl to fit the space perfectly. Work around the edges of the vinyl. Place a piece of scrap plywood under the vinyl when making cuts to avoid damaging the underlayment.
8. Spread adhesive and secure the vinyl flooring. Use the adhesive or type of adhesive recommended by the flooring manufacturer for use with the specific type of underlayment. Roll the vinyl up so half of the underlayment is exposed.
9. Press the sheet vinyl down. Use a flooring roller or rolling pin and work from the center of the floor to the edges, pressing out any bubbles.
10. Clean any stray adhesive from the surface of the vinyl flooring, wall or other objects promptly.
11. Address any air pockets that remain after giving them at least a day to settle out. Slit the pocket open with a utility knife, then cover the opening with seam sealer.
12. Replace any molding or trim that was removed earlier. Seal vulnerable gaps around structures like the bath tub with silicone caulk.
